Can someone give me an idea of the pace of this trip? Was there lots of walking on uneven surfaces involved? How much time was spent out in the sun waiting to get into/near attractions? Also, can airport transfer/hotel arrangements be made to come in a day early? Thanks for any and all help.

Hi cmc3954, Odysseys weighing in here - with an answer to your second question first: Unfortunately our airline contracts do not allow for early arrival; however, we do offer a “land only” package for all of tours that would give you complete flexibility in reserving your international airfare and arriving on the day of your choice.
Regarding the pace of the Egypt trip: there are some very early mornings in order to get to sites before any crowds; as far as waiting in the sun, there really isn't too much of that, though there certainly is walking to and from sites in the sun. The pace of the tour varies: there are some buy days in Cairo followed by much more relaxing time on the Lake Nasser cruise.
One of our travel counselors would be happy to discuss the pacing of the tour with you; please don't hesitate to contact our Customer Service department, toll-free at (888) 370-6765.

We took this trip in the fall of 2015. Can't say enough good things about it. They won't go if it's not safe. We felt safe. We've traveled all over the world, and this is the most amazing place we've been. Go!

Hi Joe, There are no dress restrictions for women on Egypt & the Eternal Nile; just a gentle reminder for both men and women that Egypt is a conservative country and that dressing appropriately is a sign of respect when traveling abroad.
There are Photography Permits available for purchase now at the Valley of the Kings - photos w/o flash for 3 tombs. I believe that the entrance fee is covered by the Odysseys Unlimited tour, but are we given the opportunity to purchase the permits as an extra? I've read comments that some group tours (not necessarily this company) that were not given the option.
We would be interested in knowing if anyone is taking the 27th Oct Nile adventure and planning an early arrival in Cairo. We are thinking to arrive in Cairo on Tuesday or Wednesday, via London, and would welcome getting together for local Cairo city tours/visits of common interest.

Overview: This was my first real group tour of any kind. An adventure worth every penny. I was solo and fitted right in with the other solos and couples--all widely traveled. Lake Nasser was indeed a relaxing respite from Cairo. The rooms were the least fancy of any of the accommodations but the boat felt like home--just us and another small group and a great staff.
Attire: As I recall, we all (men and women) wore slacks and short-sleeve shirts everywhere. And hats in the sun! In my pictures I see some other tourists wearing knee-length shorts (men) or pedal pushers (women) in Luxor. There is a certain amount of climbing--on and off small boats and into the hot air balloon--where skirts or dresses would not have been good.
Waiting in the sun: Not that I recall. Typically, tour guides can buy the tickets without waiting in line, and he would find a place for us out of the sun if there was a wait of a few minutes.
Walking on uneven surfaces: Mostly not on the Egyptian tour. Some in Petra and Jerash in the Jordan extension, but we all made it, even though our guide offered chances to skip parts and wait at the cafe. But lots of walking! Taking out guide's advice, we walked both ways in Petra, not riding horses or camels.
Camera: Telephoto lens are banned at Aswan dam. For the balloon ride we were advised to keep cameras out of sight until airborne. Binoculars must not be used at the dam (or I assume any other strategic site). Really best not to bring them. Absolutely do not take them if going to Jordan--a member of our group was delayed going in and coming out.
Two of us from So Cal will be taking back to back trips. We leave on the Morocco trip o 10/11 and Egypt 10/25. Would love to hear from anyone on either of these trips. Sorry we will miss the No Cal group
