Hello,
I'm writing with questions about the Classic Safari-Kenya/Tanzania trip. I'd like to know which month people feel is preferable for viewing the great migration, late July or late August? Also, can you share what cultural experiences you had while on the trip? For example, did you visit a Masai village?
Thanks for your input!

Hi Wendy,
I took the Classic Safari trip last month (15-31 Aug). I can’t speak for preferable times for a great migration and while we didn’t see any wildebeests actually crossing the Mara River we saw a steady stream of wildebeests heading in that direction. They just kept coming and coming heading toward the Mara River. One of many wow moments we had during the trip. We did visit a Maasai village on day 5. We did see the ‘Big 5’ and lots of other amazing fauna. Of course there’s no guarantee to see specific animals but our guide and amazing game drive drivers did their very best to try to maximize our viewing experience. I have traveled a lot in my life and had always wanted to take a camera safari in Africa. Definitely a bucket list item. This trip was absolutely amazing and in a class all by itself.
Happy travels!

We did the Classic Safari July 25-August 8, 2015. The itinerary was slightly different then (today's itinerary is better) but our experiences were the same as Fitz reported. We too saw an amazing number and variety of animals. At one point we saw a long, long line of wildebeests and zebra. We waited for a while at the Mara River but saw no actual crossing. Most of our time in Masa Mari was spent farther from the river. The drivers work hard to give you a great experience. We saw the Big 5 and witnessed a lion take a zebra as well as several other kills that had happened less than an hour earlier.
We also visited a Maasai village at Amboseli. That was very interesting but I'd have to say that this trip doesn't emphasize cultural experiences. Of course you do get a lot of time speaking to your driver and learn a lot about life in Kenya and Tanzania.
We loved Africa. We loved it so much that this was our second trip - we had previously done Africa's Wildlife. There is no guarantee that you will see a particular animal or event. If you go with that expectation you may be disappointed. If you go with a spirit of exploration you'll have a great time.
