Just wondering if anyone who has taken this tour can give me some insight into the schedule after arriving in Zurich. We just received our airline reservations and we are arriving in Zurich around 5 pm. It looks like the coach trip from Zurich to Lucerne takes about an hour or so. The itinerary states that after checking into the hotel, there is a briefing followed by dinner at a local restaurant. Based on that schedule, it look like dinner will be around 8pm? Is that what other travelers on this tour experienced? Thanks for any insight/information.

We took this trip, our 6th OU tour, last September. It was a great trip! You haven't said where you are traveling from, but we left out of JFK and got to Zurich in the morning. We had the afternoon to wander around Lucerne, and then met at 6.00 pm for the briefing. We left for dinner at Restaurant Schiff at 7.00, and it was a short 15-minute walk away. By the way, it was an excellent dinner in a very pleasant restaurant with good service. We had pre-ordered our choices for dinner. On other tours I've been on, when travelers are getting in late, the Tour Director has reached out via email to ask what they wanted for dinner. It sounds as though you may not have much time before the briefing. Perhaps OU may give you your TD's email so you can ask him/her directly. If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to answer them. Be prepared, however, as Switzerland is very expensive for meals on your own. The minimum wage in the country is about $25/hour, so you are paying for that. But, it is more than made up by friendly people, excellent roads, and gorgeous scenery.

Our July 2018 Swiss flight from Chicago to Zurich arrived at 6:20am. We got to Lucrene in plenty of time to rest, then explore a bit before the briefing meeting.
We had a great time on the tour.

Thanks for the information. We are taking this tour in September of 2020 and will be getting our own air so we can stay and enjoy Oktoberfest after the tour ends. This will help us manage our arrival times. Anything else that you could share about the trip? This will be our first time with OU, or any travel company, as we have always traveled on our own in the past. What type of vehicle did you travel in? Was it a large bus? How early were the morning departures? We are very excited to try OU.

What type of vehicle did you travel in? Was it a large bus? How early were the morning departures? We are very excited to try OU. We've traveled a lot with Odysseys and sometimes my memory gets confused but on this tour I'm pretty certain our buses were very large. Big enough so that every traveler who wished a window seat was able to do so. That's been the case on most of our Odysseys journeys - the exceptions have been where a big bus was obviously impractical. The tour directors usually encourage travelers to rotate seats but often some travelers prefer to sit in the rear while others prefer to sit in the front - I think everyone ends up happy. I do have specifics of the morning departures on this tour because they are still on my iPhone calendar. Day by day, the departures were 9:00, 8:15, 11:00, 8:00, 10:45, 8:45, 8:00, 8:30, 8:00, 7:45, 8:30, 6:30. The 6:30am departure was to take 4 of us in a van from Salzburg to the Munich airport for our 11:40am flight - other travelers left at different times. We really enjoy Odysseys.

Thanks for your reply. We are really looking forward to this trip next year. We have extended it at the end so that we can enjoy Oktoberfest in Munich at the end of the tour. Do we ever get the opportunity to "talk" with others signed up for our trip before we leave?

Hi itsanita, You're welcome to "talk" with others on your departure here on our Message Board or on our Facebook - but we don't have any other forum to do so before your trip. We look forward to welcoming you in July!
