Is anyone going on Portraits of Italy on Sept 7, 2017? We are hoping to connect with some folks prior to our arrival. Very excited as we have traveled to Europe often but never to Italy so we are looking forward to this trip. We are from Chicago area. Looking forward to meeting you all!!!

Are there optional excursions offered on the Portraits of Italy tour? We're going 9/8 and haven't seen anything on optional tours yet.

Hi Sonya, thanks for getting in touch. We don't have any scheduled optional excursions on our Portrait of Italy tour, but there are a number of days with built-in free time when you are at leisure to explore on your own. Specifically, we have free afternoons and evenings in Rome on Days 6 and 7, in Orvieto on Day 9, in Florence on Day 13, and in Venice on Days 15 and 16. Your tour director will be happy to recommend activities or excursions for you, but one suggestion we have is to visit Florence's famed Uffizi Gallery. If you decide to do so, we highly recommend reserving tickets as far in advance as possible, for 1:30 p.m. on the date we visit Florence. This very popular museum often is sold out and it may not be possible to obtain tickets on site that afternoon. You can reserve tickets online; see the museum’s website for details: www.uffizi.it/index.php?en/171/gli-uffizi We hope that helps, and further hope you enjoy your trip to Italy!

If you do not mind spending a little bit extra on guided museum tours, www.contexttravel.com , Context has some excellent options to consider. We used them in Florence and Rome, and were very much impressed with results.

We are departing Tampa for the Portraits of Italy tour on Sept. 9, 2017. Looking forward to meeting our fellow travelers. I plan to book tickets for the Uffizi gallery on Sept 21 (That IS day #13 I hope). We are taking the Venice extension for 2 days at the end of the tour.

Looking to book Portrait of Italy. Depending on th edate there are 2 choices of hotels in Amalfi: Marmorata Hotel and The San Francesco. does anyone have a preference and if so why? The Marmorata is the lodging Odysseys normally uses. We stayed there several years ago. It's right on the sea. The views are really great but you can't really walk to anyplace else. It is pretty isolated. It has a swimming area roped off in the sea. I've not been to the San Francisco but from an internet search it appears to be located in an area where you could walk to nearby pubs. It's a busier location. It is across the street from a beach but it doesn't look like the views from the hotel are as nice. Odysseys always uses nice lodging. I'd not worry about the lodging choice and pick a date that fits your schedule and budget.

Hi Bill G,
Just to clarify that we do not offer a choice between the two hotels on Portrait of Italy; the Marmorata is our primary lodging on the Amalfi Coast but it is unavailable on select dates - so we stay at the San Francesco. Everything else on the tour is exactly the same - all sightseeing, meals, etc. Please feel free to contact us if you have further questions about the Portrait of Italy tour: by email at odysseys-unlimited.com or toll-free at (888) 370-6765. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you on this tour.

Hi, Anyone going on the November 2017 trip? Would be interesting to know some of our travel companions prior to meeting in Naples. My husband and I are living in Washington, DC. My second trip to Italy; his first.
