I am trying to decide between this trip and Enchanting Ireland in 2017 and would love to hear some feedback on this one. I am leaning toward it because I would love to see the Camino and Cathedral de Santiago soon. I am wondering about the air route and carrier between Atlanta and Lisbon and then the return from Barcelona. I'm also curious about the overall experience as well as how long you were on a bus on any given day. And lastly, I would love to know what your earliest start time was to board the bus, e.g., did you start usually at 8:00? Or earlier or later? Many thanks.

Hi Linda, We certainly hope other guests will weigh in for you, but wanted to let you know a couple of things. First, touring on Across Spain and Portugal typically starts around 8:30 or 9 - no super-early starts. And regarding air route and carrier: from Atlanta you will most likely travel with our Star Alliance or Sky Team partners; however, we won't have specific details for you until about 2 1/2 months prior to departure when we send your preliminary flight schedule. Until that time, carriers, routing and flight times are subject to change. We hope this information helps. Should you have further questions that we can answer for you, please don't hesitate to contact our Customer Service department, by email at customerservice@odysseys-unlimited.com or toll-free at (888) 370-6765, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Thanks! That's super great news about the no early start. That may be the deciding factor for me! Makes me smile.

My husband and I plus a single friend are going on this trip that leaves March 30 from Atlanta. Would love to hear from any other fellow travelers. This will be our third trip with Odyssey and have always been thrilled with the entire trips.

My husband and I, sister and a friend are interested in the Portrait of Italy tour, Sept or October 2018. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Sounds like you have had good results with Odyssey in the past! I have not found too many reviews of this specific trip on line. TIA!

My two thumbs are up for Odysseys' tour of Portugal and Northern Spain, though the Lisbon to Barcelona tour via the southern route is also outstanding. We took the tour in its first year, 2014. While everything on the tour is worth seeing, I found Lisbon and Oporto more attractive than say Santiago de Compostela. The former two are rich in history and cultural charm. The latter was a little too popular for my taste. Every tour seems to have something completely unexpected. The visit to Ordesa y Monte Perido National Park was one such experience. I've skipped too much, but can't fail to say the Barcelona rivals Paris. It's worth as much time as you can spare. Museums, Gaudi's many surreal designs, fantastic restaurants. Someone asked about time on the bus. I thought one day--Leon to Bilbao possibly--was too long. But, Lisbon to Barcelona is a considerable distance. If time on the bus matters a lot, the Ireland trip offers shorter drives. While I enjoyed Ireland, Northern Spain would get my vote.

We went early & visited Sintra which isn't far from Lisbon, beautiful. Bilbao was one of our favorite places, the city is walkable & very friendly. Oporto was a surprise to us, much more than we thought it would be. Nice sipping port on the river, beautiful tiles, bridges, etc. The Pyrenees & the Basque area were very interesting & beautiful. Found Santiago very emotional with all the pilgrims finishing their walk. Quite an experience for the hotel to be right there. Barcelona is just wonderful, so much art, architecture, great food, etc. We stayed 3 or 4 days longer & could have spent more time. Hope to go back when we take the Southern Spain tour. The accommodations were very nice. If you haven't seen the movie The Way with Martin Sheen you should before & after the trip. Enjoy

Thanks! That's super great news about the no early start. That may be the deciding factor for me! Makes me smile. Linda, both trips to Spain and Portugal are wonderful. "Across Spain and Portugal" including the Camino is delightful, including Portugal and then across Spain into the Pyranees. Please watch "The Way" before you go... It will get you ready to leave tomorrow. I also want to tell you that of all the travels my husband and I have done with Odysseys, we have not experienced early tour times or late nights (other than catching flights which cannot be avoided) and the amount of free time is "just right" for us. Enjoy!
Of course.... you must schedule Ireland as well!!!

Hi Libby, We did this trip a couple years ago. We knew very little about the various locations, would have preferred the Southern trip but decided on the Northern route based on travel friends schedules & availability. We were pleasantly surprised. Each area was very special & different from the rest. We especially liked Santiago, Bilbao, & Barcelona. The Pousadas, Paradors & hotels were wonderful, loved each place. It was so interesting to see all the pilgrims, the different customs in different parts of the countries, the food specialties, architecture & beauty of the many areas. We extended in Barcelona about five days & loved every minute. If you haven't seen the movie The Way w/Martin Sheen I recommend watching it to get a flavor of the area. I think you'd enjoy this trip. We had a couple of single women in our group & they had a great time. Sherry
