We are very interested in taking this tour with the Amazon extension, but have a little concern about its whirlwind nature. We would love to hear from anyone who has taken this tour to get a sense if it tries to do too much, whether elevation changes caused problems, etc. Thank you,

Elevation problems were vastly over rated. Several of our group from a few years ago got the medication. The reaction was far worse than altitude sickness from anyone. If you have been skiing in the West, or any tall mountain, you have already experienced the very minor adjustments.
My wife and I did the Amazon extension, and found it just as incredible as Machu Picchu and Galapagos. There is a lot to see and there were essentially no bugs, particularly gnats and mosquitos. If the lodge is the same Cieba Tops, you should be in for a treat. Many of the Amazon lodges are very primitive. Cieba Tops was nice, well maintained, with reasonable food, air conditioning, and no bugs in the rooms. There were a few resident Tapirs and friendly Macaws.
