Hi, I've been using an Auto CPAP for about two years now and in that time haven't traveled outside the US. But this year I'm planning a trip. I will take my CPAP but thinking about leaving the humidifier behind. Reason: it's lighter and less to pack, but mostly I'm not sure how easy it will be to buy distilled water where I'm going -- and I won't have a car to lug it home. I've never slept without a humidifier, and I'm not sure how to test if I'll be able to do it on a trip, especially taking climate and weather into account. Any advice anyone? Thanks I didn't find the right solution from the internet. References: www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic/t118550/Any-tips-for-preparing-to-travel-without-a-humudifier.htmlCorporate Advertising Video

Hi! My husband has been taking his CPAP on trips without the humidifier and has had no problem. After a discussion with his sleep clinic doctor, we recently decided to invest in a smaller CPAP just for travel which is light weight and does not have a water reservoir. Just returned from a trip using the new one and all was great. Biggest suggestion we have is to remember to bring a plug adapter for the machine and an extension cord because you never know how far away an outlet will be. :-)

I used bottled water on my first trip with a CPAP (Egypt) and the reservoir got kind of gunky so it wasn’t the best solution, but with a bit of vinegar when I got home, it cleaned up fine. My next three trips with Odysseys I did without the humidifier. Vietnam/Cambodia was fine because it’s a warm, humid climate. Eastern Europe and Australia/New Zealand were less successful. It all depends on the climate where you’re going. I have found that Smartwater works just fine and you don’t have to get a big gallon jug; it can be had in normal bottled water sizes. Take an unopened bottle or two in your checked bag and then see what you can find when you get to your destination. I found distilled water at Carrefour in France with no problem, but I know it’s not always easy to go to a store like that when you’re with a tour group.
